The Strategy Map

a case study: Nunn Media Sydney

The challenge

Nunn Media Sydney had a strong track record of growth. But in a tougher, more uncertain market, the leadership team wanted clarity on how to keep momentum going, without overextending the business or relying on what had worked in the past.

The approach

A Core Strategy Team of three (the Managing Director, Head of Strategy and Rob as coach) owned the strategy end-to-end, meeting between workshops to keep decisions moving. The wider Leadership Team joined three half-day workshops, spaced three weeks apart, each with a clear purpose and outcome.

1Explore

Create shared understanding

The first workshop built a shared, fact-based view of the business and its environment. Using the Business Model Canvas, the team examined how Nunn Media creates value today, where growth was coming from and where the model was under pressure, and scanned the external trends shaping clients, customers and consumer behaviour.

The outcome was alignment on what was truly working, the risks ahead and the strategic questions that mattered most.

2Decide

Make the hard calls

The Core Strategy Team brought the draft strategy and key decisions to the wider Leadership Team for robust debate and refinement. The team tested how the strategy would create value for clients, what it required from the organisation and what it meant choosing not to do.

By the end of the session, the strategy had genuine leadership buy-in.

3Plan

Turn strategy into action

The final workshop focused on execution. The Leadership Team translated the strategy into a clear plan, including:

  • A small set of meaningful metrics in a shared dashboard
  • A prioritised roadmap of key initiatives
  • A communication plan to align teams and activate the strategy

To build momentum quickly, we also agreed an initial 6-week sprint to generate early wins and clear ownership.

“ Rob's Strategy Map process brought our leadership team together in a way we hadn't managed before. We got clear on where the business is today and what it will take to move forward with confidence. The half-day workshops were fast-paced and incredibly productive. The best part? Everyone was engaged. Everyone contributed. And now we've got genuine energy, ownership, and alignment to actually execute this strategy, not just talk about it.
